Redcar and Cleveland Council – Consultation with Young People Visit

Working in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Council on their Care Leavers App
Thank you to the team at Redcar and Cleveland Council, it was great to visit you and young people in Redcar last week for your Target Leaving Care Event. Spending the day with you, to talk about your Care Leavers App – Target and hearing some of the great things planned to support your young people.
Target currently provides young people in Redcar with important information such as their local offer, events, services and opportunities. Their app is available as a website, in the Google PlayStore and App store ensuring that young people can access the information is a way that works best for them.
Throughout the day, it was great to speak with you about how your app has been used since its launch in October 2022 - going through your statistics and benefits of the app with your young people.
During the consultation section of the day, it was great to speak with your young people about the additional sections they would like to see in their app, such as Recipes, Keeping Fit advice and signposting to other helpful organisations such as Olio. We also discussed some ideas that other local authorities have included in their apps, such as discounts and offers and the opinions of Redcars young people about including these in their app.
We discussed the possibility of including a Swapstore into the app, for young people to post wanted ads and collect items that might be available and helpful – particularly for moving accommodation.
Further feedback included, providing a document holder in the app to keep the likes of young people's National Insurance Numbers, educational documents and health information in a safe and secure place.

Moving forward we are excited to further develop Target based on the young people's wishes, while discussing how we could further help with budgeting and mental health support, guidance and advice.
