UMBRAAD is an opportunity for Umbraco and web practitioners to get together, learn and discuss accessibility in general, find out what’s happening with Umbraco accessibility and to pick up any tools and techniques that may help them improve the accessibility of their sites.
With sessions with titles such as “Learn the rules to break the rules” it’s bound to be an interesting one!

Digital Acccessibility Podcast
18 May 2023, 12pm - 1pm

A special hour long episode of The Digital Accessibility Podcast featuring Ronny Hendriks, Head of Accessibility at Nomensa. Discussing Ronny’s own battles and his journey into the world of accessibility (A11y), the work he is currently doing to support the growth and innovation of huge global companies through the adoption of Accessibility. We chat about how A11y is a mindset, not just a ‘nice to have’ or a ‘feature’, touch on imposter syndrome when working within the space without your own ‘disabilities’ and what we should do to continually raise awareness within the field of Digital Accessibility.

Explore how to remove the barriers people face when communicating their needs – by using AXS (‘Access’) Passport: D&A’s innovative new digital accessibility passport. You’ll learn how AXS Passport breaks down the barriers that prevent equitable access in our workplaces, educational environments, and wider society. Communicating your needs is something we all can struggle with, especially if you don’t feel safe to do so – which can become a disabling barrier in itself. AXS (‘Access’) Passport are making it easier for everyone to have their needs heard and to put adjustments in place that enable people to thrive. They’ll also explore their exciting new organisational portal, demonstrating how it enables organisations to support their staff or members in a clear and accessible way while gaining strategic data to help anticipate and welcome diverse needs.

If you’re interested in data, statistics or analysis then you may have come across a data dashboard or some other sort of interactive analytical content online. In the UK Government Analysis Function we support analytical teams across government to make their content more accessible. So, as part of Analysis in Government Month we are running a session where an accessibility tester will assess a few different types of data dashboards and other interactive content. We will discuss issues and possible improvements that could be made. Tickets are still available on Eventbrite, but they are selling out fast!

So go on, get involved, do it for the one Billion plus people across the globe with disabilities/impairments who deserve the same digital experience as everybody else.
