Meet ‘Atkinson Hyperlegible’ - Our New Font Option

We’re excited to announce that our apps now include the Atkinson Hyperlegible font - starting with Edinburgh’s Care Leaver App!

Why the excitement about a font? Well, fonts are the unsung heroes of accessibility. They shape how people see, read, and feel information. And we think everyone deserves a great reading experience, no matter their needs or preferences.

Why Atkinson Hyperlegible?

Atkinson Hyperlegible was designed by the Braille Institute with one goal in mind: to make text as clear as possible for people with low vision. Every letterform is crafted to be distinct - no more mixing up your O’s and zeros, or your I’s and ones. It’s crisp, confident, and full of character (literally).

We’re pairing this new font option with our existing OpenDyslexic font, giving users more choice in how they read and interact with content. Because accessibility isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing, it’s about flexibility.

Continuous Improvement in Action

This update is part of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement. We don’t just design an app and call it a day - we listen, learn, and keep iterating. Accessibility isn’t a checkbox for us; it’s a moving target that we aim to meet and exceed.

Each improvement, big or small, makes our products that bit more inclusive. Adding Atkinson Hyperlegible might seem like a subtle change, but it can make a world of difference for users who find reading digital content tricky.

What’s Next?

Edinburgh’s Care Leaver App will be the first to showcase Atkinson Hyperlegible, but it won’t be the last. We’ll be rolling it out across all future apps, continuing our mission to make every experience simpler, fairer, and more accessible for everyone.
